Nataki Alexander-Hewling, the Founder of HERShot, started as a Teaching Artist with Magic Box, teaching Photography to middle school students and also working with Illuminart Productions teaching a Behind-the-Scenes Photography course to elementary students at P.S. 59. Previous to becoming a Teaching Artist, she worked for top publishing houses including Scholastic Inc., and TIME Inc. While at TIME for Kids magazine, Nataki photographed notables such as Newbery Medal winner Kwame Alexander, Author Chelsea Clinton, Pharrell Williams and many more. Her work can be found inside the print and web editions of TIME for Kids magazine as well as other publications. Nataki is also a writer who has published children’s book reviews as well as poetry for Dialogue newsletter and wrote for Mommypoppins.com, where she kept New York City parents in the know about the fun and educational family-friendly activities that happen on Staten Island. In addition to teaching, she loves to photograph children of diverse backgrounds and write poetry. She hopes to continue to share her love of poetry and pictures with the people in her community. Her photography exhibition “Saved by Grace,” was chosen and featured in Photoville NYC in 2021. Nataki also owns and runs a photography business HERShot! Productions, LLC which provides visual solutions for various clients. Several of her HERShot! participants continued to work with her business as photographers upon high school graduation.
